Wedmore First School is seeking a Clerk to the Governing Body Early Years Sensory Garden

The governing body, through its appointed and elected governors, plays a distinctive and essential role in the continuing success and development of the school. The clerk’s job is to work with the head teacher, chair and other governors dealing with administrative matters for the governing body and advising on legal issues of governance. Central to the role is preparing for, taking notes at and producing minutes for meetings. The post involves some evening work and the successful candidate should be available at times during the day. Good keyboard skills and the ability to write agendas and produce accurate concise minutes are essential. Integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality are essential. New clerks receive support and training from the Somerset Governor Service Team and all clerks are encouraged to attend termly briefings in their locality to update themselves on the latest developments in governance. The post will initially involve 7 hours work for each meeting and, typically there will be two meetings each term. The clerk may be asked to take on additional work according to need. The post of Clerk to Governing Body has been evaluated using Somerset’s Job Evaluation Scheme at Grade 13: £16,830 - £19,126 full time equivalent salary. Further information and an application form can be obtained by contacting Mrs Val Jones, Business Manager on 01934 712643 or e-mail office@wedmore.somerset.sch.uk.

Ms. Waters is trying to develop the garden outside the barn into a sensory garden for Early years. We have already had help and advice from Wedmore in Bloom. Friends have generously donated some money to fund the planting. Now we need some parent volunteers to clear out the current garden and top up with compost. If you can spare anytime to do this please let Ms. Waters know.

Fortes Ice Cream Parlour of Cheddar Vouchers

Foundation Stage visited the ice cream parlour on Monday. We had a great time; Mr and Mrs Cooper the owners showed us how to make doughnuts and ice cream. Children practised using money to buy their own ice creams complete with wafers and decorations. Back in class we have written thank you letters to present to Mr and Mrs Cooper and their staff for their generosity.

Tesco have now finished issuing their vouchers, so please check your car, coat, handbag, kids book bags etc. and make sure they are posted in the box in the entrance by the office so we can get them counted. Please keep your Sainsbury’s vouchers coming in. They will be available to collect until 8th June.
